PROFESSIONAL
TRAINING AT SOLUTION F
- From 30 juin to 26 septembre 1997
-
- SOLUTION F is a firm
specialized in the preparation of race car at the level
of the chassis
- as well as at the level of
the engine. In 1997, SOLUTION F entered the official
Peugeot
- 106 maxi in the French rally
championship for PEUGEOT SPORT.
- During my training, I have
conceived, manufactured and developed a wind tunnel for
cylinder
- head. This machine is used to
measure the air flow in an engine. It is more and more
used
- by engine builder. It allows
to better understand aerodynamic phenomenon in a cylinder
- head. It also allows to
reduce the developing cost because we can improve it
without
- putting it on a power bench
(which set the assembly of a whole engine and its wear.
-
- Sketch of the wind
tunnel:

Principle
of the wind tunnel:
- The air flow is provided by a
centrifugal turbine. Air is drawing through a delivery
pipe which
- allows to know exactly the
air flow thanks to a pressure measure at its neck.
- After, air pass trough a
quietness chamber before going through the turbine. A
regulation
- gate allows to have the right
pressure in the drawing chamber. The intake pipe and the
- cylinder head are put after
this chamber.
- We study the air flow in one
cylinder. To simulate the effect of the cylinder, we put
a false
- cylinder underneath the
combustion chamber

the wind tunnel:

Cylinder head test :
- For several valve lift and
for the same pression in the drawing chamber, we notice
the air flow
- or the calculated section
wich represent the intake pipe with the valve. Finally,
we get curves
- like these :
